About this place
With plenty of shredded cabbage and Chinese-style noodles, Nonosuke’s Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is worth trying without extra toppings first. One diner who ordered the plain version for a weekday lunch found it satisfying, with pork belly included and cabbage cooked until soft. A little pepper partway through the meal can offer a change of flavour.
Choose the noodle portion, from half to double; the S size comes with half a portion of soba and smaller amounts of meat and vegetables. The noodles are thin, and one review praised their quality, noting that they came from a noodle maker. For a more substantial combination, add double vegetables and spring onion, or choose squid tempura or a fried egg.
For a generous serving, there is also the Nonosuke Special: a recommended combination of double vegetables, squid tempura, a fried egg and spring onion. The menu describes it as suitable for sharing, so it can work as the centrepiece of a meal for one or as a dish to divide among several people.
To accompany the okonomiyaki, try a teppanyaki dish such as butter-grilled gizzards, whose chewy texture and buttery flavour are balanced with lemon, or chijimi-ten (a fish-cake fritter) with seaweed. Beer is also available, making these a relaxed option for an evening meal with an extra dish.
